Does my pool need to comply?
Swimming Pool Safety should be seen as a priority to protect young lives from risk and that includes maintaining the integrity of pool barrier and constant supervision of young children in the vicinity.
Should my pool be registered?
Yes, all pools must be registered with the QBCC. List your property pool on the Pool Safety Register at bcc.qld.gov.au.
Will I need a Pool Safety Certificate?
Yes, you will require a Pool Safety Certificate if you are selling or leasing your property or if the pool is shared and is accessible to residents of two or more dwellings, such as a unit complex, hotel, motel, caravan park or backpacker hostel.
If you are selling, you may not require a Pool Safety Certificate if you give the buyer a Form 36-"notice of no pool safety certificate" prior to entering a contract of sale and send a completed copy of the form to QBCC before settlement.
How long before I need to renew my Pool Safety Certificate?
Pool Safety Certificates for non-shared pools are valid for 2 years from date of issue and 1 year for shared pools.
How do I know if my pool complies?
The best way to ensure your property pool is compliant is to have us professionally inspect it and check for any defects according to the Australian Standard 1926 1 & 2 - 2007 & QDC MP 3.4
There are check lists for compliance at QBCC but they are only a guide and do not cover all aspects of the above Standards.
Swimming pools, spas and some portable pools (including inflatable pools) need to comply with the pool safety standards.
If your portable pool or spa can hold more than 300 millimetres of water, has a volume of more than 200litres or has filtration system then the laws apply to you.
ANP Building Services are fully licensed through QBCC to carry out Swimming Pool Safety Inspections and issue Swimming Pool Safety Certificates for compliance with Australian Standard 1926 1 & 2 - 2007 and QDC MP 3.4.
The purpose of the Pool Safety Standards are to help reduce the incidence of young children drowning in the backyard pool. In Qld, since the introduction of the Qld. Swimming Pool Safety Laws the number of child drownings have halved.
ANP Building Services is also a licensed builder and can complete the necessary work to help make your pool compliant before issuing a Pool Safety Certificate.
